Texas Upland Bird Hunting

Welcome to the Porter Ranch and P3
Upland Bird Preserve. The Porter covers
1500 acres of pure bird haven! The Porter
ranch is one of the most scenic locations
in the entire area. During the short drive
from Hubbard TX to the ranch, your mind
will drift back to the days when covey calls
range from hill tops to creek lines. The
deep cut ravines and rolling terrain will put
any bird hunters mind to rest. Navarro
Mills Lake borders the ranch on the North
West side, and makes for a picture perfect
view! More and more people are learning
the benefits of a well run Central Texas
Upland Bird Hunting Preserve. One of the
biegest benefits of a preserve is the Texas
Quail Hunting and Texas Pheasant
Hunting season's are lengthened. We start
hunting Upland Birds on October first and
finish the season the last week of March.

Clients need to bring gear that will not only make their hunt more successful but also safer.
The following is a list of primary gear we recommend you to bring:

1. a comfortable, broke-in, waterproof pair of boots
2. Clothing to cover all weather possibilities (hot, cold, rain, etc)
3. Proper shells (# 7.5 shot is all we allow on the preserve)
4. Hunter orange is a requirement. A hunter orange hat is a good idea but a vest or
shirt is required.
5. Texas residents must have at least a resident hunting license Type 101
6. Non-residents hunting a bird preserve ONLY must have a non-resident
banded bird license - Type 120. This license only allows the take of preserve
raised birds.

This gives the hunter more opportunity for Pheasant, Quail and Chucker hunting in Texas. If you are Upland Bird
Hunting in Texas with your own dog, you can guarantee your dog to be in birds. Do not be misdirected between a
Texas Upland Bird Hunting preserve and a put and take. On the P3 upland bird hunting preserve the birds and habitat
are managed year around. We introduce young birds to the ranch though a surragate system, This means a wilder
acting quarry. The birds that are not harvested have the ability to survive from one year to the next. We use natural
clump cover management along with feeder systems to help reduce predation and adaptation loss.

Texas Upland Bird Hunting can be made a joy or nightmare by a guide and his bird dogs. We pride ourselves on the
quality of bird dogs we raise. Our dogs are not only from National Champion bloodlines, but they are proven field
dogs.
