Clients need to bring gear that will not only make their hunt more successful but also safer.
The following is a list of primary gear we recommend you to bring:
1. a comfortable, broke-in, waterproof pair of boots
2. Clothing to cover all weather possibilities (hot, cold, rain, etc)
3. Proper shells (# 7.5 shot is all we allow on the preserve)
4. Hunter orange is a requirement. A hunter orange hat is a good idea
but a vest or shirt is required.
5. Texas residents must have at least a resident hunting license Type 101
6. Non-residents hunting a bird preserve ONLY must have a non-resident
banded bird license - Type 120. This license only allows the take of preserve
raised birds.

Being able to enjoy nature and all that it has to offer while in pursuit of game birds can be
exhilarating! Upland bird hunting began in the United States in the late 1800's. It seems
that just about every bird hunter enjoys pursuing pheasant, chukar partridge, and
bobwhite quail. The thrill of walking up a covey of birds and watching the dogs work add
to the excitement of the flush. The excitement of the birds bursting and the hunters
taking his game.
We operate a managed preserve of approximately 800 acres here in central Texas conveniently located about an hour and a half south of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Lodging is provided at The Lodge at Navarro Mills Lake. The Lodge is a 14-bedroom, 3-bath Lodge located on five acres on the shores of Navarro Mills Lake. The Lodge is owned and operated by Heart Of Texas Guided Hunts. The Lodge is located only a short drive from the Upland Game preserve and close to the cities of Dawson and Hubbard, and a short drive from Corsicana and Waco in Central Texas.
We want our clients well taken care of in every aspect of their experience. This is especially true when it comes to meals. We cook a variety of foods to satisfy our clients. We believe the dining experience is an important part of your hunt. Three meals are offered each day with access to snacks and drinks available all day long. Depending on your arrival and departure times, you may have missed a prepared meal. There are various restaurants near the lodge that provide 24 hour a day food services. If you require a special diet, we will do our very best to accommodate your needs.
